As we come to the end of Foster Care Fortnight 2025, let’s take a moment to celebrate a theme that truly resonates within the fostering community: The Power of Relationships. This special time gives us a chance to reflect on the wonderful connections formed between foster carers, the children they care for, and the amazing community supporting them all.
Foster Wales Flintshire recently had the joy of sharing the inspiring story of a Flintshire foster carer, Gavin, along with Kyle, the young man he fostered, who is now an adult. To celebrate their story, a heartwarming video was created that showcases the love and experiences that foster families build over time. From movie nights that bring comfort, like the one Gavin shared with a young Kyle during a difficult period, to celebrating milestones together, this video illustrates the spirit of a supportive family environment.

With over 7,000 children in care across Wales but only 3,800 foster families, there’s a need need for more compassionate carers, like Gavin. His dedication to fostering is clear. He provided Kyle with a safe space when he needed it most and played an important role in helping him grow into the amazing person he is today.
“i felt like there was no support, but there was” – Kyle
Kyle shared a sentiment that really hits home: “When they go into this scenario, young people will be scared and will just think it’s over for them… I felt like there was no support, but there was.”
This highlights how transformative it can be to have someone who believes in you -a guiding light through life’s ups and downs. Fostering isn’t just about meeting physical needs; it’s about nurturing emotional well-being, too.
“giving them sort of life you’d want for yourself” – Gavin
At 22 years old, Kyle is thankful for the stability and love he experienced and has successfully made the transition to independent living, equipped with the skills and confidence that Gavin helped him build. Gavin beams with pride as he talks about Kyle’s accomplishments, saying, “It’s the greatest satisfaction of fostering. When it works and they have the sort of life you’d want for yourself and they’re on that path, I don’t think it could be beaten.”
The connections made in fostering weave a beautiful tapestry of hope, resilience, and love that can last a lifetime. A big thank you to Gavin and Kyle for sharing their inspiring story.
