Fostering changes lives, and in Flintshire, men can be a vital part of that change. What we don’t always highlight enough is the impact male foster carers have every day. Whether they’re part of a fostering couple or stepping forward on their own, these men bring essential stability, trust, and presence to the children in their care.
And often, it’s the smallest moments that matter most. Whether it’s kicking a football in the garden, helping with homework, or just sitting together after a long day, these everyday interactions build trust over time. For some children, a positive male role model can feel new, and those connections grow gently, at their own pace.
this is where more men are needed.
Not because there’s a single way to foster, but because every child benefits from different types of support, different personalities, and different life experiences. Sometimes it’s about energy and play. Sometimes it’s about patience and consistency. Often, it’s simply about being there.
and you don’t have to figure that out on your own.
At Foster Wales Flintshire, support isn’t something offered once and then stepped away from. It’s ongoing, practical, and built around real relationships. In our community, carers are part of a close-knit group, supporting each other in a way that feels natural and reassuring.
we also recognise that connection looks different for everyone.
That’s why one of our Mockingbird Hub Carers, Andy, has been bringing male foster carers together through relaxed, informal socials called “Social with Andy”. From axe throwing and darts, to time at the driving range, these moments give foster carers space to switch off, build friendships, connections and share experiences with people who understand.

Andy, mockingbird hub home carer in Flintshire shared:
“I like these events because they’re relaxed and a fun atmosphere for us blokes to connect. Foster Wales Flintshire put on a lot of events, but it’s nice to have some just for men to get away from it all and relax.”
Graham, foster carer in Flintshire said:
“It’s just nice to do some team building in a bit of a different way. It’s good fun and nice to catch up.”
this is what fostering with a local authority looks like. not just a role, but a community.
So if you’ve ever thought about fostering, or even just wondered whether you could make a difference, this is your sign to look again.
Because sometimes, what a child needs most… is someone like you.
